A note from Loren Abdulezer

Welcome to the author support site for Excel Best Practices for Business published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Over time there will be new additions to this site, including important updates, corrections and topics of special interest not included in the book.

The information has been organized so you can quickly find items of interest. Most of these will be accessible from the links to your immediate left. Look at the Table of Contents link to give you a visual cue of what's contained in the chapters.

This book is all about practical techniques essential to using spreadsheets in the business environment. In the 500 or so pages it assembles a comprehensive array of techniques and best practice tips. Much of the material is entirely new. This is in part because it addresses the new features not available prior to Excel 2003. Of special interest is full suite of XML facilities specific to Excel 2003. If you are interested in using Excel as web based portal, Chapter 12 (Spreadsheet Portals, XML, and Web Services) is the place to start. You can read the chapter excerpt (The PDF file is 550K).

I have endeavored to make access to book material and CD-ROM as easy and convenient as possible. In this regard, I have included in Appendix C, the top 150 best practice techniques and tips, and where to find them. The book CD allows you to hyperlink to all the spreadsheets on the CD from a single file (readme.xls). This makes it easy to try out everything. Take the time to explore the CD. There's plenty in it for everyone. You may want to explore the link called Of Special Interest. I have also placed the whole book in PDF form on the CD-ROM that accompanies the book.

Happy reading and thanks for purchasing the Excel Best Practices for Business.
